The Honourable the Chief Justice has appointed Mr Christopher Tan as Registrar of the State Courts with effect from 1 May 2020.
2. Mr Tan takes over from Ms Jennifer Marie who will continue her appointment as Deputy Presiding Judge of the State Courts.
3. Mr Tan joined the Singapore Legal Service on 1 July 1999 and was posted to the Supreme Court as a Justices’ Law Clerk. In 2001, he was posted to the then Subordinate Courts and was later appointed a District Judge.
4. In 2003, Mr Tan was posted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers as a Deputy Public Prosecutor. Thereafter, he held various other appointments, including Second Director of the Legal & Enforcement Division at the Competition Commission of Singapore, and Executive Director of the Investment Intermediaries Department at the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
5. In 2014, Mr Tan was posted to the Supreme Court and was appointed Senior Assistant Registrar. On 1 March 2019, he returned to the State Courts as a District Judge.
6. Mr Tan holds a Bachelor of Laws from the National University of Singapore and a Master of Laws from the Harvard Law School, USA. He was conferred the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2011.
