Biography

 

Justice Goh Yihan was appointed Judge of the Appellate Division on 1 October 2026. Immediately prior to this appointment, he had served as Deputy Attorney-General at the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) from 1 January 2025 to 30 September 2026.

Justice Goh graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (1st Class Honours) from the National University of Singapore Faculty of Law (NUS Law) in 2006 as the valedictorian and obtained his Master of Laws from Harvard University in 2010. 

After graduating from NUS Law, Justice Goh served as a Justices’ Law Clerk (later as Senior Justices’ Law Clerk) and subsequently as an Assistant Registrar between 2006 and 2008 at the Supreme Court. 

After his initial service at the Supreme Court, Justice Goh joined legal academia. He was appointed Teaching Assistant at NUS Law in 2008 before being appointed an Assistant Professor in 2011. In 2014, Justice Goh joined the Singapore Management University Yong Pung How School of Law (SMU Law) as an Associate Professor, where he was appointed Associate Dean (Research) in 2016. In 2017, at the age of 35, Justice Goh became Dean of SMU Law. He was later concurrently appointed Professor of Law in 2019. 

Justice Goh’s many publications include The Interpretation of Contracts in Singapore (Sweet & Maxwell Asia, 2018), Contract Law in Singapore (Wolters Kluwer Law and Business, 2012, 2nd Ed, 2021, and 3rd Ed, 2026) (with Justice Andrew Phang), and Property and Trust Law in Singapore (Wolters Kluwer Law and Business, 2018) (with Alvin See and Yip Man). He is also a contributor to The Law of Contract in Singapore (Academy Publishing, 2012, 2nd Ed, 2022).

During his time in legal academia, Justice Goh remained active in the Singapore legal profession, serving as amicus curiae to the High Court and the Court of Appeal on numerous occasions. He was called to the Singapore Bar in 2011 and appointed Senior Counsel in January 2021.

In 2022, Justice Goh entered public service. He was first appointed Judicial Commissioner of the Supreme Court on 1 July 2022 before being appointed Judge of the High Court on 1 October 2023. Justice Goh resigned as a judge to assume the role of Deputy Attorney-General on 1 January 2025. At the AGC, he oversaw the work of its Civil Division and its Advocacy Group, where he argued some high-profile cases. He also oversaw the work of the International Legal Cooperation Team, which is part of the Criminal Division. 

Presently, apart from his judicial duties, Justice Goh is Chair of the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) Publications Committee and Co-Chair of the SAL Learning and Professional Development Committee. He is also a Vice-Chairperson of the Singapore Institute of Legal Education Board.
