Organised by the Supreme Court of Singapore, the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC) Symposium 2021 will be held as a webinar on 10 March 2021. The theme for the SICC Symposium is “Trends and Developments in International Commercial Litigation”. The SICC Symposium brings together Chief Justices, Judges and legal luminaries in the field of international commercial litigation from various jurisdictions, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Singapore, to discuss the topics related to this theme.
2. Following an opening address by Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon, the panel discussions at the SICC Symposium will feature a line-up of eminent local and international speakers, including Judges of the Supreme Court; Justice Judith Prakash, Justice Chua Lee Ming and Justice Kannan Ramesh, and the International Judges of the SICC, Justice Anselmo Reyes, Justice Sir Vivian Ramsey, Justice Sir Henry Bernard Eder and Justice Douglas Jones AO. The SICC Symposium closes off with a conversation with the President of the SICC, Justice Quentin Loh. The moderators for the respective sessions are set out in the table below. The detailed programme with the speakers can be found in Annex A.
Session | Topic | Moderator |

2 | Commercial and Infrastructure Disputes in a Post-Pandemic world | Professor Locknie Hsu Professor of Law Singapore Management University |

3. In particular, Sessions 2 and 4 will provide a timely discussion of the key legal issues in infrastructure and cross-border insolvency disputes in the post-pandemic landscape, and the potential for international commercial courts to resolve such disputes. Session 3 will provide delegates with an insight into the development and key features of the new standard-setting body of SICC procedural rules. The bespoke new SICC rules draw from the best international practices in commercial dispute resolution and are a culmination of the efforts of a committee of Judges and International Judges, who were assisted by the Supreme Court Registry.
4. “I am very pleased that we will, this year, be hosting the Singapore International Commercial Court Symposium, which will be held virtually. The Symposium features a sterling line up of speakers, and I am deeply grateful to all of them for taking the time to join us, some of whom will be participating from time zones halfway around the world. Much has changed in the past year; this Symposium presents an excellent opportunity not just to keep abreast of the latest developments in international commercial litigation, but also to participate in discussions on how we might chart its future,” said Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon.
5. The SICC Symposium is a landmark event, bringing together key players in the international commercial dispute resolution landscape. The line-up of distinguished speakers at the SICC Symposium exemplifies the SICC’s status as a leading court for the resolution of international commercial disputes and Singapore’s status as a leading forum for legal services. The SICC Symposium is held ahead of the 3rd meeting of the Standing International Forum of Commercial Courts (SIFoCC), which will be hosted by Singapore over two days, and will take place for the first time as a virtual event. SIFoCC is a forum that brings together the world’s commercial courts, and some of the Judges will also be attending the SICC Symposium. Established in 2017, SIFoCC is aligned with global efforts to support the rule of law, and also to promote best practice in commercial dispute resolution. The 1st and 2nd meetings of SIFoCC were held in London in 2017 and in New York in 2018, respectively.
