Extension of Appointment of Justice Chao Hick Tin as Judge of Appeal

The President of the Republic of Singapore, in accordance with Article 95 (2) of the Constitution, has extended the appointment of Justice Chao Hick Tin (赵锡燊) as a Judge of Appeal with effect from 11 April 2016 to 27 September 2017.

2. The swearing-in ceremony will take place on 11 April 2016, 3pm, at the Istana.

3. Justice Chao, 73 was first appointed to the Bench as a Judicial Commissioner on 1 October 1987. He became a High Court Judge in 1990 and was appointed Judge of Appeal in 1999. Since 2008, Justice Chao has been holding the position of Vice-President of the Court of Appeal. He is also the current Vice-President of the Singapore Academy of Law (SAL) as well as the Chairman of the Corporate Development and Services Cluster of the SAL.

4. With the reappointment of Justice Chao, the Supreme Court will continue to have a total of 14 Judges (including the Chief Justice), 10 Judicial Commissioners, five Senior Judges and 12 International Judges.
