The President of the Republic of Singapore, in accordance with Article 95(4) (a) of the Constitution, has extended the appointment of Judicial Commissioner Debbie Ong (王少凌) for a period of one year with effect from 17 November 2016. The swearing-in ceremony will take place on 17 November 2016, 11.30am, at the Istana. JC Ong was first appointed Judicial Commissioner on 17 November 2014 for a term of two years.
2. Prior to joining the Supreme Court in 2014, Judicial Commissioner Ong had held various academic positions in the Faculty of Law at the National University of Singapore, where she specialised in Family Law. She obtained her LLB from the National University of Singapore in 1989 and received her LLM from the University of Cambridge in 1991. She was admitted as an advocate and solicitor in Singapore in 1990.
3. With the extension of appointment of Judicial Commissioner Ong, the Supreme Court will continue to have a total of 14 Judges (including the Chief Justice), 11 Judicial Commissioners, five Senior Judges and 12 International Judges.
