If a person below 16 is arrested for a crime, they may be charged in the Youth Courts. Special rules and procedures apply to such youth offenders.
Persons below 16 years old are usually charged in the Youth Courts if they are arrested or summoned to attend court for a crime.
Note: The Children and Young Persons Act 1993 has been amended for youth offender cases to include persons below 18 years old, with effect from 2025.
